Quick Tips: What Are Best Practices for Towing? | Chevrolet

Towing is great for work and play, and no one does it like Chevrolet. But there’s more to towing than just attaching something and driving. Check your Owner’s Manual to see the towing weight for your vehicle, make sure to use the proper materials and, if equipped, activate Tow/Haul mode to increase performance.

GM Breaks New Ground with the Industry’s First True, Optional Extended Bumper-to-Bumper Limited Warranty

October 15, 2018

GRAND BLANC, MICH. — Effective immediately, people buying new General Motors vehicles will have the opportunity to purchase a true, extended bumper-to-bumper limited warranty resulting in five years or 60,000 miles of coverage (whichever comes first) for Chevrolet and GMC customers, and six years or 70,000 miles for Buick and Cadillac customers. No other brand offers customers a true extended warranty.

“One of the best things about buying a new vehicle is the peace of mind that comes with the warranty,” said Ken Mac, director of Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac Protection. “If you drive a Chevrolet, you know that any GM-brand dealer will take care of warranty repairs without paperwork, deductibles or exclusions. The same goes for Cadillac, GMC and Buick owners. Now, we’re offering people the opportunity to increase the duration of their bumper-to-bumper warranty far out into the future.”

The standard factory bumper-to-bumper limited warranty on Chevrolet and GMC products is three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. On Buicks and Cadillacs, it is four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first.

GM’s new warranty program differs in several important ways from service contracts, which are a popular way to protect against unexpected repairs.

The most important differences include:

  • The optional limited warranty is accepted without question by all Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealers nationwide.
  • Any warranty service is completed without the need to file a claim form and with no deductible.
  • The warranty is in force no matter who owns the vehicle, so there’s no need to transfer coverage. This may enhance the resale value of the vehicle.
  • The option is included in the overall price of the vehicle and can, therefore, be folded into the loan or lease at the customer's request.

“People who lease typically keep the vehicle for 24-36 months, so most of them are always covered by the base bumper-to-bumper limited warranty,” Mac said. “But if you buy, analysts say you’ll likely keep your new vehicle for over six years. This true extended warranty can keep the average customers covered for most if not all of the time they own their vehicle.”

On average, new car buyers keep vehicles for about 6.8 years, according to IHS Markit.

2019 Silverado 1500 Durabed Is Largest Pickup Bed

DETROIT — With best-in-class cargo volume, box depth, box length at the floor, plus a segment-leading 12 fixed tie-downs and exclusive power up/down tailgate, the 2019 Silverado 1500 is the most functional bed of any pickup.

“The bed is the heart and soul of any pickup, so we made several improvements to the bed of the all-new Silverado to give our customers an even better hauling experience,” said Tim Herrick, executive chief engineer, Full-Size Trucks, General Motors. “We’ve added so many features and benefits that it deserves its own name – Durabed.”

Silverado now has 12 fixed tie-downs, and the strength of each of these has doubled from 250 lbs. to 500 lbs. of force before bending. An additional nine moveable tie-down points are available as well for even more cargo flexibility. Together, these 21-total tie-downs are the most of any full-size pickup.

The accessibility of the tie-downs has also been improved. Tie-downs are now located at varying heights to offer customers greater versatility in what they can secure and haul.

The Durabed truck bed, standard on all 2019 Silverado 1500 models, also includes larger cutouts in the GM-exclusive CornerStep bumpers to better accommodate steel-toed boots.

Durabed is also available with integrated, in-bed LED lighting and a 110/120-volt power outlet. A light at the top of the rear cab comes standard on all Silverado models

The 2019 Silverado 1500 will also be available with four tailgate variants:

  • Standard gate: a manual gate with no lift assist; manually lockable (with key)
  • Standard Gate with Lift Assist: a stamped gate that includes lift assist; manually lockable (with key)
  • Power Lock/Release: includes lift assist and automatic release; power lockable
  • Industry-exclusive power up/down: available on the LTZ and standard on High Country, the tailgate raises or lowers using the key fob, touchpads on the gate or button in the cabin. Includes lift assist, automatic release, and power closing; power lockable

The 2019 Silverado goes on sale this fall.

ALL-NEW 2.7L TURBO ADDS TO EFFICIENT, FUN-TO-DRIVE 2019 SILVERADO

More torque, higher horsepower, and better city mpg
over previously standard 4.3L V-6

Oct 10, 2018

DETROIT — The all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the technologically advanced 2.7L Turbo offers full-size truck customers a capable and efficient choice with an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 20 mpg city/23 mpg highway in rear-wheel-drive models.

To achieve both better performance and overall efficiency, engineers made smart choices with engine technologies, advanced manufacturing and the use of mixed materials. The base curb weight of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado with the 2.7L Turbo is 380 pounds less than the current Silverado with the 4.3L V-6, despite having more interior room and cargo space.

“The new Silverado 2.7L Turbo delivers impressive performance and fuel efficiency,” said Tim Asoklis, Silverado chief engineer. “It’s fun to drive every day — quick from the start and pulling hard under acceleration. With up to 23 mpg on the highway, the truck is efficient while still offering plenty of capability to tackle weekend projects and trips to the lake.”

Standard on LT and RST trim levels, the 2.7L engine offers 14 percent more torque and 13 percent better city fuel economy and it is more than a full second quicker 0-60 mph than the 4.3L V-6 it replaces. The Silverado city fuel economy also exceeds the standard 3.3L V-6 engine offering in the Ford F-150 XLT (EPA-estimated 19 mpg city) and matches that of the Ram 1500 3.6L V-6 mild hybrid (EPA-estimated 20 mpg city).

The new Silverado also delivers the largest cargo volume of any full-size truck on the market, so customers don’t have to sacrifice space for efficiency. They’ll also enjoy Silverado’s full-size truck capability and durability. The new 2.7L Turbo engine delivers an SAE-certified 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque, exceeding Ford’s 3.3L V-6 and Ram’s 3.6L V-6 mild hybrid by 31 percent and 29 percent respectively. The Silverado 2.7L Turbo reaches its peak torque more quickly than Ford or Ram engines in the segment and delivers it from 1,500 to 4,000 rpm. Customers will feel that power as the truck can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.8 seconds. Its max towing capacity is 7,200 pounds and there is a 2,280-pound max payload.*

Developed from the outset as a truck engine, the new 2.7L Turbo integrates many different innovative technologies to support engine performance and efficiency, including:

  • An innovative double overhead cam valvetrain that enables high- and low-lift valve profiles, continuously variable valve timing and Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation).
  • A dual-volute turbocharger housing for improved throttle response, low-speed torque, and virtually no turbo lag.
  • Chevrolet’s first application of Active Thermal Management, which uses targeted engine heating and cooling across the entire powertrain system to create optimal conditions for optimal fuel economy and recover otherwise wasted exhaust heat for faster engine and transmission warm up.
  • Stop/start technology that automatically stops the engine in stop-and-go traffic for fuel efficiency.

The engine was subjected to months of nonstop testing to simulate a lifetime of maximum hot and cold cycles. This is in addition to more than 475,000 validation tests and 1 million miles of real-world testing to deliver the durability and performance Chevrolet truck customers demand.

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 offers eight trims paired with six engine/transmission combinations so every customer can find the right truck to match their unique performance, efficiency, technology and value requirements

Work Truck Wednesday 10-17-18 - Secret Hidden Storage Haven!

This secret hidden storage haven is called a transverse compartment and is available on any utility or service body from the 2500HD 8' single rear wheel to the 11' or longer body on the dual rear wheel models, including the upcoming 2019 4500-6500HD medium-duty models as well as the current Low Cab Forward tilt-cab chassis.

This option can be configured in numerous ways, and what is shown here is a 3-drawer setup which would be ideal for contractors who use a lot of small fittings and such in their business. Just imagine the number of small parts that can be carried in these long drawers! Yet nobody knows they are there until you pull the drawers all the way out as in the top photo.

With the transverse compartment, you do lose a little bit of storage space in the bed area but it is up against the cab. But, now you can reach anything in the bed without climbing up in the bed area. Also, the compartment typically only goes through the bed area to the backside of the opposite side compartment like the one shown, but it can be set up to go all the way through the body too.

The truck shown is a Knapheide service body and is shown in a 9' dual rear wheel body on a 60" cab-to-axle 3500HD. This is a great unit which will carry a lot of weight and still has the turning radius almost the same as a standard pickup truck.

There are so many solutions that you may not be aware that we can customize just for your business.

If this option is something that would benefit your business, give us a call at 951-252-2980 and we will be happy to get the perfect configuration for you.
