Fleet Truck Friday: Catalytic Converter Thefts are Turning Violent and Deadly

The 117th State of the Fleet Industry video produced by Automotive Fleet offers insights into the state of the fleet market as presented by AF Editor Mike Antich. 🎙Today's topics include: - More and more of these catalytic converter thefts are turning violent, and on at least three occasions, the vehicle owners were killed while the crime was in progress. - It is important to instruct employee drivers not to confront thieves who are attempting to steal catalytic converters from their fleet vehicles and instead to keep their distance and immediately call 911. - In 2018, there were 1,298 catalytic converter thefts. Three years later, in 2021, catalytic converter theft claims jumped to 14,433 incidents — a 325% increase in a single year. - Year to date, in calendar-year 2022, from January to September, more than 50,000 catalytic converters have been stolen from parked vehicles in the U.S.

Work Truck Wednesday - Having Your Cake and Eating It Too!

It is much more efficient to carry the tools, parts, products, and accessories and stay in the field rather than go back and forth to the shop. Sometimes, the perfect solution is a larger truck body. First, we need a chassis to handle it, and for convenience and efficiency's sake, we want it to be maneuverable too!

This truck may very well solve all of those issues. We begin with the Chevrolet LCF (Low Cab Forward) 4500 chassis with 14,500 lbs. gross vehicle weight rating, a 6.6 gas V8, 6-speed automatic, AC, and many other convenience features.

To this, we add the famous Knapheide KUV plumber-style body. This 132" wheelbase chassis allows the 13' utility body to fit perfectly and gives you a larger body to carry more cargo. The good news is that the turning radius or maneuverability is excellent. Even with this large truck body, this chassis will turn a circle inside the turning circle of a typical full-size pickup with an 8' bed. That's having your cake and eating it too!

This combination is hard to come by, so call 951-364-2499 and talk with one of our fleet specialists today and let us solve your most pressing work truck issues.

Fleet Truck Friday - Understanding the Transition from Aftermarket to Factory-Installed Modems

Fleets have been deriving value and improving efficiencies with telematics systems for years. Traditionally, this involved installing a modem in each fleet vehicle. Today, most modems are available directly from the factory. In this Fleet Momentum video series, Jason Hammond, director of mobile field solutions at AT&T, discusses the transition to OEM-sourced modems, the benefits they provide, and what fleets need to be thinking about when managing them and the data they provide. ⏱ Topics & Timestamps 0:00 Intro 1:15 The cost and efficiency benefits for light-duty vehicles to come with automakers’ modems direct from the factory 4:15 What fleets should know in a mixed environment with both legacy aftermarket modems mixed with factory-sourced modems 6:45 How to handle the difference in modems since not all are standardized across OEMs 8:30 How this trend factors into fleeting EVs and what data to gather and analyze 10:55 How to manage multiple systems and multiple dashboards, especially with EVs
