Work Truck Wednesday, 5-22-19: Crew Cab Contractor Is Super Functional Work Truck

JD Diaz gives us a tour of a Contractor Body which is a very popular truck in our inventory for a lot of reasons. This particular unit is a 10' Royal Contractor Body mounted on our 3500HD Crew Cab chassis and is available in gas or diesel. The Crew Cab is perfect when you need to get more people to and from the job site.

We carry a large selection of Contractor Bodies in stock because so many different types of contractors love the flexibility and functionality of this type of commercial truck. You can also get this in a 12' model on a regular cab chassis which is very popular. It is also available in longer lengths which would be more popular on our Low Cab Forward models which can have longer bodies and still maintain excellent maneuverability.

Work Truck Wednesday, 5-15-19: Supreme SRW Plumber Style Body

Ramiro Perez gives us a walkaround with general and specific information on the enclosed service body that we call a plumber body, although it is popular with so many more contractors and other service providers besides plumbers. This body is available on numerous different types of truck chassis and is very popular on the cutaway chassis as Ramiro is giving a tour on. The unit shown here is a single rear wheel model and so is very easy to maneuver in traffic and tighter places. This unit is made and designed by Supreme Corp. We carry quite a number of plumber style bodies in stock from Knapheide, Harbor, Supreme and others.

An example of this unit can be found here.

Welder and Crane Bodies Explained

Crane Bodies is any type of body that also has a crane attached to it. Most commonly, these are service bodies, but they can also be flatbeds. Sometimes they are called Mechanics Trucks, and sometimes they are also called Welder Bodies.

A Welder Body is much more difficult to pin down since welders are creative people and like to create their own unique truck bodies that serve their needs. Many of these designs have been copied by body companies and called welder bodies. Typically a welder body is a service body with one or two raised compartments to house their gas bottles. Sometimes they have a cutaway compartment area to house an electric welding machine. Sometimes the welder will also have a crane to make easier repairs out in the field, so the crane body and the welder body are put together here.

We will show some examples of these bodies below, but keep in mind that we can customize them to suit most needs. When it comes to crane bodies, capacity is everything, so they have a wide range of capacities. The 3,000-3,500 lb. crane is probably the most popular size and that will typically go on a 3500HD.

The other thing to keep in mind about cranes is that they are most like your own arm relative to your body. So the first two questions are:

1. How much is the maximum weight you will want to lift?

2. How far away from the body did you need to go?

So, just like your arm, you can pick up heavy things close to you, but if your arm is extended, you can only pick up a fraction of that amount. The crane is exactly the same way. So, for example, with a 3,000 lb. crane, it will pick up 3,000 lbs. right next to the body, but at the maximum extension of the boom, it can only pick up about 500 lbs. Just think of your arm and it will make the most sense.
