Work Truck Wednesday 12-19-18: New Chevy LCF Gas Unit with 14' Stakebed

Rich McGrath with Paradise Chevrolet Fleet shows off the all-new Chevy 4500 Low Cab Forward. This unit has a 6.0 Gas V8 engine with 6-speed automatic transmission with many creature comforts such as power windows and door locks, AC, tilt-telescopic steering wheel and more.

This unit is equipped with a 14' Martin Flatbed with 48" Gates, and also is equipped with a Palfinger 2,000 lb. tuckaway liftgate with a 42" x 80" platform.

The best thing about this rig is that it will carry a lot of cargo and yet still has a very tight turning radius. The wheelbase on this rig is only 132" and that is about the same as a standard regular cab pickup truck with an 8' bed, and this unit sports a 14' bed, and yet turns sharper than the pickup would.

This is an example of our current stock #M18734 and you can see more about it here. Or, better yet, give us a call at 951-252-2980 and let us help you find the perfect truck for your business.

Silverado's 6.2L V-8 Named To Wards 10 Best Engines List

Dynamic Fuel Management technology
makes the engine a top choice

2018-12-13

DETROIT — The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado has won a 2019 Wards 10 Best Engines Award. The award-winning 6.2L V-8 employs industry-leading Dynamic Fuel Management or DFM to save fuel without sacrificing performance.

“General Motors’ thundering 420-horsepower V-8 in the Silverado exemplifies how engineers continue to find ways to improve efficiency without giving up something in return. DFM determines 80 times per second exactly how many cylinders require fuel to meet power demands. And, incredibly, it uses as few as two cylinders to propel the full-size pickup down the highway,” says Senior Content Director Drew Winter. “The truly amazing part is the cylinder deactivation is imperceptible, so seamless that the only thing the driver notices is fewer stops at the pump.”

For the competition, WardsAuto editors evaluate every all-new or significantly improved engine or electric propulsion system available in production vehicles in the U.S. Vehicles must have a starting MSRP less than $64,000. The editors score eligible vehicles on horsepower, torque, technology, observed fuel economy, relative competitiveness, and noise characteristics.

The 6.2L V-8 and the available 5.3L V-8 are the first V-8s available with Dynamic Fuel Management. Compared to Active Fuel Management, which alternates between eight- and four-cylinder modes, DFM features 17 cylinder patterns. That greater authority mixes cylinder patterns constantly to optimize efficiency and power delivery at all speeds.

“Chevrolet first introduced its Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation system in 2005, and Dynamic Fuel Management is a natural progression of the technology,” said Jordan Lee, Small Block chief engineer. “Dynamic Fuel Management enables only the cylinders needed to deliver the power you want, seamlessly delivering the best balance of power and fuel economy.”

The 6.2L with DFM — the largest and most powerful gas V-8 in the segment — is manufactured at GM’s Tonawanda engine plant in New York. It is SAE-certified at 420 horsepower (313 kW) and 460 lb-ft of torque (623 Nm) and paired with a Hydra-Matic 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2019 Silverado is larger than before, including a wheelbase that is up to 3.9 inches (100 mm) longer and an overall length that is 1.6 inches (41 mm) longer, enabling both more cargo volume and more interior room for all cab lengths. Remarkably, it’s also lighter, weighing 450 pounds (204 kg) less than today’s truck when comparing crew cab V-8 models.

Silverado 1500 offerings include regular cab, double cab, and crew cab body styles, all available with 4WD.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. To Pace 2019 Daytona 500 In All-New Chevrolet Silverado

It’s the first time a pickup truck
will pace The Great American Race

2018-12-11

DETROIT — Dale Earnhardt Jr. will find himself in a very familiar place at the 2019 Daytona 500: at the front of the pack.

Earnhardt Jr., a two-time Daytona 500 winner, will drive the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado pace truck to lead the field to green for the 61st running of The Great American Race. This is the first time the Daytona 500 will be paced by a pickup truck.

“I’ve had a lot of fun and a lot of success at Daytona over the years, and now I can’t wait to get out on that track in a Silverado,” said Earnhardt Jr. “Away from the track I’ve driven Chevy trucks all my life, and I’m excited to have this unique experience of pacing the Daytona 500 with the Silverado.”

In addition to winning The Great American Race in 2004 and 2014, Earnhardt Jr. was a two-time winner of the July race at Daytona, overall scoring four wins, 13 top 5 finishes and 19 top 10s in 36 NASCAR Cup Series career starts at Daytona International Speedway. Earnhardt Jr. was voted the sport’s Most Popular Driver for 15 consecutive years.

“Dale Earnhardt Jr. was the perfect choice to pace the race because of his enthusiasm for the sport, his long history with Chevrolet and his love of trucks,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “It’ll be exciting to have Dale lead the field to green in the strongest, most advanced Silverado ever.”

The Silverado pace truck is powered by a production 6.2L V-8 engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It delivers 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.

Chevrolet has paced the Daytona 500 12 times, seven with Camaro and five with Corvette.

Chevrolet Reveals 2020 Silverado HD High Country Model For All-New Pickup

Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ and High Country models
offer different combinations of design, features,
and technologies tailored for different customers

DETROIT — Chevrolet knows no two truck customers are the same, and as such continues to expand its truck franchise with five distinct trim levels for the all-new Silverado HD: Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ, and range-topping High Country.

This follows the expanded range of customer choices on the all-new Silverado 1500, which has eight distinct trim levels. As with the 2019 Silverado 1500, each 2020 Silverado HD model offers a different level of design, features, and technology to meet the individual and rigorous demands of HD owners.

“Truck customers are very clear: They want the perfect truck for them and not a ‘one size fits most’ truck compromised for the masses,” said Mike Simcoe, vice president, Global Design, General Motors. “That insight shaped our strategy for the next-generation Silverado franchise, providing customers more differentiation between the Silverado 1500 and the Silverado HD as well as more personalization and differentiation between individual trim levels.”

For example, each of the Silverado HD models features distinct exterior design details including grilles featuring either the Chevrolet stamped bar or the iconic Chevrolet bowtie and a mix of black, body color, chrome or the two-tone metallic trim exclusive to High Country models.

“We took into account every detail of what customers expect, and how they will use their truck,” said Simcoe. “The results are unique versions of the Silverado HD equally at home working on a construction site or pulling a camping trailer.”

The 2020 Silverado HD goes on sale in mid-2019. Stay tuned for more details about the all-new 2020 Silverado HD — including images of Work Truck, Custom, and LTZ — closer to launch.
