Work Truck Wednesday Aug 28th: Plumber Body Max!

At Paradise Chevrolet Commercial Fleet, we carry a huge number of plumber bodies in all shapes and sizes. Some need small to get into parking garages and some need tall to stand up in and some need lighter duty and some need the max. Here is an example of a plumber body max.

This 11' Knapheide Tall Plumber Body is mounted on the new Chevrolet Silverado 4500 with 16,500 lbs. GVWR to carry the weight and maximize space and cargo capacity. The 4500 cab is so similar to the 2500 or 3500 that you're totally comfortable with it from the beginning. Yet this combination is for serious work and the heavy cargo weight. Chevrolet Raises The Bar: 2020 Bolt EV To Offer Impressive 259 Miles Of Range

Detroit — The game-changing Chevrolet Bolt EV will now take customers even farther. Starting with the model year 2020, the Bolt EV will offer a remarkable EPA-estimated 259 miles of range on a full charge1, a 21-mile increase over previous model years. The Chevrolet Bolt EV’s winning combination of long-range and affordability continues to attract new customers to the electric vehicle segment, and the 2020 Bolt EV will appeal to even more customers by allowing them to travel farther between charging sessions.

“The Bolt EV set the benchmark for long-range, affordable electric vehicles, and we’re excited to raise the bar by offering nearly 10 percent more EPA-estimated range for the 2020 model year,” said Tim Grewe, director of Global Battery Cell Engineering and Strategy. “At Chevrolet, we’re constantly listening to customer feedback and we heard the desire for more range. The team worked diligently to find ways to improve battery energy, giving customers the confidence to go more than the extra mile.”

To achieve this notable range increase, Chevrolet’s battery engineering team improved the energy of the cell electrodes by making small but impactful changes to the cell chemistry. This innovative thinking allowed the team to implement the range increase without needing to change the physical battery pack and the way it is integrated into the vehicle structure.

“The Chevrolet Bolt EV has been changing consumer perceptions of electric vehicles since its launch in 2016,” said Steve Majoros, director of Chevrolet Passenger Car and Crossover Marketing. “Great range — now even more — is the foundation of the Bolt EV’s success, and when paired with features like one-pedal driving, Regen on Demand and the instant torque of the EV motor, the vehicle delivers an exceptional driving experience. Chevrolet also is helping to encourage EV adoption by providing customers the necessary tools and services to make EV ownership more convenient.”

Currently, original purchasers of new Bolt EVs have access to Chevrolet’s exclusive Energy Assist feature through the myChevrolet mobile app2. Energy Assist allows customers to view and search for charging stations, plan a trip with multiple waypoints and charging stops, monitor their route, and receive alerts if their destination becomes unreachable. Last year, the myChevrolet mobile app2 was updated to enable smartphone projection of the Energy Assist feature to the vehicle’s infotainment system via Apple CarPlay3 and Android Auto4 for drivers with the model year 2017 or newer Bolt EVs.

Chevrolet recently announced a partnership with Qmerit that will enable EV owners a seamless way to find and obtain quotes from certified electricians to install at-home charging equipment. Chevrolet is the first non-luxury car brand to offer this service, and its partnership with Qmerit will provide customers with a more accessible at-home charging solution.

The 2020 Bolt EV will arrive in dealerships later this year with a starting MSRP of $37,495 (including destination and freight charges, excludes tax, title, license, dealer fees). Additional updates include two new exterior colors: Cayenne Orange Metallic (additional cost option) and Oasis Blue.

1-Your actual range will vary based on several factors, including temperature, terrain, battery age and how you use and maintain your vehicle.
2-Requires active OnStar service and a compatible device. Data rates apply. Visit onstar.com for details and system limitations.
3-Vehicle user interface is a product of Apple and its terms and privacy statements apply. Requires compatible iPhone and data plan rates apply. Apple CarPlay is a trademark of Apple Inc. Siri, iPhone, and iTunes are trademarks for Apple Inc, registered in the U.S. and other countries.

COLORADO ZR2 STARTS THIRD YEAR OF OFF-ROAD RACING

Production-based ZR2 has accumulated 3,275 race miles
in Best in the Desert Series

LAS VEGAS — Today the Colorado ZR2 will be competing in its third Best in the Desert’s General Tire Vegas to Reno race. Since the truck made its debut at the 2017 Vegas to Reno, the ZR2 has been piloted by Chad Hall of Hall Racing in 11 Best in the Desert races, logging 3,275 miles in some of the most challenging off-road conditions imaginable.

A total of 434 vehicles have competed in all 11 races in the Best in the Desert series since the ZR2’s race debut. As a testament to the grueling nature of off-road racing, the ZR2 is one of only four vehicles — fewer than 1% of total entrants — that completed each of these 11 competitions.

“Our goal with the Best in the Desert competition is to push the engineering and development of the Colorado platform in the most extreme conditions imaginable,” said Mark Dickens, chief engineer, Government Programs, Performance Variants, Parts, and Motorsports. “We’ve already learned things over the past two years that have shaped our off-road portfolio, including the performance parts and motorsports catalog, production vehicles and GM Defense projects.”

Not only has the ZR2 survived the challenges of the Best in the Desert series, but the Chevrolet and Hall Racing teams have found ways to make the truck more robust and efficient since its debut. The truck finished its first 2017 Vegas to Reno in 18 hours and 51 minutes. The following year, the ZR2 improved its finishing time by more than four hours to 14 hours and 34.5 minutes.

The production-based ZR2 is one of the only vehicles that competes in the stock 7300 class. It regularly beats the race times of a wide range of off-road vehicles — everything from dune buggies to modified Ford Raptors, Jeep Wranglers and trophy trucks in the more extreme and well-represented Class 6000 and 6100 classes.

World-renowned off-road racer and engineer Chad Hall received one of the first Colorado ZR2s ever built in May 2017, and he’s been running it ever since. His vehicle began life as a Red Hot Crew Cab ZR2 powered by a 3.6L V-6 engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

This vehicle was modified with prototype suspension and driveline parts that were developed into 15 factory race components now available to Colorado ZR2 customers. The truck has since been updated with the same production parts available through the Chevy performance catalog. This portfolio includes race-tuned versions of ZR2’s Multimatic Front and Rear Long Travel DSSV shocks with up to 15 percent more suspension travel in the front and 10 percent in the rear.

Other factory racing parts include a 1.5-inch Body Lift System, Front, and Rear Jounce Shock Systems, ZR2 Steel Driveshaft, Plunging Ball Spline Half Shaft System and severe duty Tie Rod Sleeve Systems.

“In off-road racing, your speed comes from your suspension, not your engine. Usually, when you modify the suspension on a stock truck, the rest of the truck can’t keep up with it,” said Chad Hall. “However, the Colorado is such a great platform, everything seems to work at the same level. This is true even during off-road races, which are some of the most punishing miles you’ll ever put on a truck.”

Hall’s race truck was recently upgraded with ZR2 Bison skid plates on its engine, transmission, and differential as well as other American Expedition Vehicles Colorado accessories such as Crestone DualSport Beadlock wheels and a snorkel for air filtration while racing in dusty climates. For its third year, the ZR2 race truck also receives a new wrap that incorporates the GM Defense logo and additional HID KC HiLiTES to improve nighttime visibility.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3.0L Duramax Delivers EPA-Estimated 33 Miles Per Gallon Highway

With the all-new turbo-diesel engine,
Silverado delivers full-size truck capabilities
with the highway fuel efficiency of some family sedans

DETROIT — The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the available, all-new 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel engine delivers an EPA-estimated 33 mpg highway and 23 city in rear-wheel-drive models. EPA-estimated fuel economy for four-wheel-drive models is 29 mpg highway/23 city.

With an SAE-certified 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, the Silverado 3.0L Duramax with four-wheel drive is also capable of towing up to 9,300 pounds and a max payload of 1,870 pounds, meeting the towing needs of about 90 percent of light-duty customers.

“We designed the all-new Silverado and the all-new 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel to deliver both performance and efficiency,” said Tim Herrick, Silverado executive chief engineer. “The engine utilizes state-of-the-art technologies to optimize every drop of fuel and takes advantage of architectural changes to make Silverado larger, lighter and more aerodynamic than before. The resulting combination offers all of the performance, refinement, and capability customers want in a full-size truck, with the highway fuel efficiency you would expect from a family sedan.”

This is the first diesel offered in Chevrolet’s light-duty trucks since 1997, and the brand’s first-ever inline-six for full-size, light-duty trucks. As such, engineers had a clean sheet to leverage the efficiency and balance of an inline-six-cylinder architecture.

“We set out to offer light-duty truck customers the best of diesel – outstanding fuel economy, great horsepower, and responsive torque – plus unexpected levels of refinement,” said Nicola Menarini, director for diesel truck engine program execution. “We leveraged our global diesel expertise to make sure the all-new 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel engine offers the impressive performance and durability our truck customers demand.”

Highly durable materials make up key components, including iron cylinder liners within the aluminum engine block, a forged steel crankshaft, and connecting rods as well as blended silicon/aluminum pistons for greater heat resistance and reduced expansion. The engine was subjected to the same extreme simulated and real-world performance testing every Chevrolet truck engine undergoes to ensure the highest standards of durability and performance.

The truck draws on innovative technologies to deliver impressive fuel economy and a refined customer experience.

  • The inline-six engine provides an inherently balanced configuration for low noise and vibration characteristics. It features an aluminum block for weight reduction, an 84mm x 90mm bore and stroke, dual-overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder.
  • A new active thermal management system warms up propulsion components more quickly for more efficient operation.
  • The exhaust brake, which is available in tow-haul mode, can provide additional driver confidence when towing, especially when going downhill.
  • The driver-selectable stop/start technology enhances fuel economy by shutting off the engine at stoplights and certain other stop-and-go situations, helping save fuel. The engine automatically restarts when the driver takes his or her foot off the brake.
  • The 3.0L Duramax is exclusively paired with a Hydra-Matic 10L80 10-speed automatic transmission, featuring smaller gear steps and an overall larger ratio spread to enable peak efficiency. Intelligent controls adjust to the driver’s needs for smooth operation and aggressive response.

The Duramax 3.0L turbo-diesel marks Chevrolet’s fourth diesel truck in the available lineup, joining the Colorado, Silverado HD and Silverado Medium Duty. The company draws on deep diesel truck experience from the Silverado HD with the Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8 and Colorado with the Duramax 2.8L Turbo-Diesel.

The new diesel option completes the all-new Chevrolet Silverado 1500 propulsion portfolio, which provides maximum customer choice through eight trims paired with six engine/transmission combinations. The 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel is available on the LT, RST, LTZ and High Country trims. For the LTZ and High Country, the 3.0L Diesel is a $2,495 option, identical to that of the 6.2L V-8. For the LT and RST, it is a $3,890 increase over a 2.7L Turbo engine.

Beyond the 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel, the 2020 Silverado 1500 propulsion lineup includes:

  • The most advanced V-8s in the brand’s history and updated versions of Chevrolet’s proven 5.3L and 6.2L engines equipped with industry-first Dynamic Fuel Management featuring 17 different modes of cylinder deactivation. The available 6.2L RST achieves the class-leading light-duty towing capability of 13,400 pounds.
  • An all-new, advanced 2.7L Turbo engine that replaces the 4.3L V-6 as the standard engine on the high-volume Silverado LT and new Silverado RST.
  • Proven 4.3L V-6 and 5.3L V-8 engines deliver full-size truck capability and performance for the most affordable trucks in the Silverado lineup.

The first customer deliveries of the 2020 Silverado 1500 with the available 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel are expected to begin in the fall.

Wow! We Weren't Expecting The 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 Diesel To Get THIS MPG!

You'd expect the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine to get decent fuel economy, but the results were more surprising than we thought.
